Balad of the Robertson Basin

On Kiama Blow hole island
Sea spume and hear ocean’s sound
Sacred to the Wodi Wodi
Where their dreaming is always found
Community leaders and traders
A safe harbour Kiama needs
Enclose the Robertson Basin
Our commerce and trade it will feed
First in came the timber getters
Cleared the red cedar and forest
They sailed it north to Sydney town
Through hard graft and luck no less
Then started up the dairies
Exported their stock and their cheese
Transport by ship was a gamble
With many dilemmas at sea
Next they quarried blue metal
A lucrative market was found
It paved Sydney’s roads and highways
And made all the railroads sound
Transport and trade was not easy
before our safe harbour was made
Many a ship ran aground here
Produce and commerce delayed
Storm Bay and Black beach formed an isthmus
On ebb tide a formidable drain
Engineers dug rock from our harbour
and joined up the island again
Five years of hard work and calamity
Before the project was done
Guaranteed the success of Kiama
Our beautiful sea side town
