The Shanty Singers

Greg Adams

Well, gather 'round, me hearties, and lend me your ears

I'll sing you a tale 'bout these shanty-singers here

They're a ragtag bunch, with their beards and their moes

Their songs filled with ocean and plenty of "yo-ho's!"

Singing shanties on the seven seas

With voices like old creaky knees

We'll raise our tankards and sing with glee

To those jolly shanty singers, upon the south seas

They'll croon about mermaids and buried gold

While swaying on the deck, so fearless and bold

But when the storm comes, they're the first to retreat

To the safety of the galley for a dry place to meet

Singing shanties on the seven seas

With voices like old creaky knees

We'll raise our tankards and sing with glee

To those jolly shanty singers, upon the south seas

Their accordion's wheezing, their fiddle's askew

And the sailor on the banjo he doesn't have a clue

But their spirit is strong, and their hearts are true

They'll sing 'til the morning with the ocean's dark hue

Singing shanties on the seven seas

With voices like old creaky knees

We'll raise our tankards and sing with glee

To those jolly shanty singers, upon the south seas

So here's to those singers, both young and old

Their stories and songs, a treasure untold

With laughter and joy, they'll banish the blues

Those shanty singers, they're the salt of the crews

Singing shanties on the seven seas

With voices like old creaky knees

We'll raise our tankards and sing with glee

To those jolly shanty singers, upon the south seas
